Grainy chamois cream

Although I love summer and hot weather it is also the bane of our chamois creams. If you mail-ordered chamois cream over the summer only to find it developed a grainy texture that is not the way it is supposed to feel. It should be creamy like butter. Unfortunately when the chamois cream leaves our hands it is at the mercy of the U.S. Postal service and sometimes sitting on a hot mail truck will melt our product thus causing grain when it rehardens. The best way to fix this problem is to remelt it on low heat in the microwave until the graininess goes away. Then give it a stir or two and put in the refrigerator to cool quickly. By cooling it quickly you are preventing the shea butter from reforming fat crystals that look like grain. After much research about shea butter it appears that this is a common problem and there is really nothing to be done about it except remelting it.
